After writing you regarding the Virginia Company,
I realized that it was desolved by James I about 1624,
I believe, but it became thebasis for British colonization
of the West Indes, and the tobacco trade between them
and Virginia. The Company of Scotland in 1698
started another effort at colonies there, right before
Alexander came over. Look for references on tthe Sinclair -
Quarterman timeline. The Darien Fleets from Edinberg
made first landfall in the West Indes on 28 September,
one month before our Alexander came to VA.
This could have some bearing because of the tobacco
trade and the Sinclair communication which Rob found.

My best,

Stan
